About the Institute

Welcome to IIGD

The Institute for Inclusive Growth and Development (IIGD) is an independent, non-profit academic research institution based in Dharwad, Karnataka. Registered under the Karnataka Societies Registration Act, 1960, IIGD is committed to producing rigorous, policy-relevant research on the challenges facing marginalised communities across India.

IIGD has been functioning as an autonomous non-profit research organisation since its founding. The genesis of the Institute can be attributed to the foresight and commitment of a group of dedicated social scientists who recognised the need for evidence-based research to address developmental challenges at regional, national, and global levels.

Our research spans four interconnected domains: rural development, poverty and employment, education policy, and social inclusion. We work closely with government agencies, civil society organisations, and academic partners to ensure that our findings reach those who can act on them — from district planners to national policymakers.

Our Research Areas

Rural Development

We study agricultural transformation, watershed management, and rural infrastructure to understand what drives sustainable livelihoods in India's villages. Our research informs programmes that strengthen the economic foundations of rural communities.

Poverty and Employment

Our work maps multidimensional poverty and analyses the barriers that prevent people from accessing decent work and social protection. We develop evidence-based frameworks to guide more effective anti-poverty interventions.

Education Policy

We evaluate the effectiveness of education policies and programmes in government schools, focusing on learning outcomes, teacher accountability, and the role of technology. Our findings help policymakers design systems that leave no child behind.

Social Inclusion

IIGD examines how caste, gender, and disability shape access to public services and economic opportunity. We advocate for intersectional policy approaches that address the compounding disadvantages faced by the most marginalised groups.

Institute for Inclusive Growth and Development (IIGD), Dharwad — Remote

The Institute for Inclusive Growth and Development (IIGD), Dharwad, conducted its first Full Stack Web Development internship from 8 June 2026 to 31 July 2026. Darshan P Pawar, a student of the Bachelor of Technology programme in Computer Science and Engineering at PES University, Bengaluru, was engaged as a Full Stack Web Developer Intern and worked remotely under the guidance of Ramappa Savadatti, Member Secretary of the Institute. The internship covered the design, development, deployment, and search engine optimisation of the Institute’s official website, https://iigd-dharwad.org, which was completed and launched successfully within the internship period.
